Arizona Relay Service
Arizona Relay Service - Making Standard Voice Call
When making a standard voice call, dial:
1-800-842-4681
An AZRS communication assistant (CA) will answer like this:
"Arizona Relay, CA 4999. What number are you calling please?"
You answer with the number you want to call, also giving them the extension if necessary:
"Please call Christi at 602-555-1234. Go-Ahead."
"Please call Christi at 602-555-1234 x345 Go-Ahead."
The communication assistant will then dial the number, informing you of the call process as they connect your call:
"Dialing 6-0-2-5-5-5-1-2-3-4. Please hold while I connect your call."
When the call is answered, the communication assistant will begin relaying your call. Note: The communication assistant will explain AZRS, including how to use VCO, to the other person if they are unfamiliar with the service. Also, the communication assistant will speak in the first person, as if they were your caller. Respond as if you were talking directly to your caller.
"Hello this is Christi. Go-Ahead"
Your call is now connected.
The communication assistant will then relay the call between yourself and your party; typing the standard phone user's spoken words to the TTY user and then voicing the TTY user's text back to the standard phone user. Remember to end each exchange with "Go Ahead." This is a turn-taking cue that informs both the communication assistant and your party when to respond.
